Twelve Things Every Teen Girl Needs in Her Closet
Over the next few weeks the Twelve Things Series will be showcasing closet staples and a few “extra” pieces we think will help you build a fun and stylish wardrobe. These pieces work for all body types and can be combined in different ways to make many cute looks (we’ll be showing that, too.)
First up, the white tee shirt.
Now, you might be thinking, boooooooooring! What’s so special about a plain white tee shirt? Well, the white tee is special because it does so many things and works with so many other pieces in your closet. Sometimes it’s best to be start simple, and add accessories to complete your look. The white tee is like a blank painter’s canvas.
- Wear it under a denim jacket or long cardigan sweater. See our post Long over Short
- Combine with a bright scarf or statement necklace (look for this idea soon on the chronicles)
- Perfect with all shades of denim. The combination of jeans + white tee = cute (we love this kind of math)
- Try it with a maxi skirt or tucked into a patterned skater skirt
You can find white tees in a variety of neck styles:

Choose the cut or cuts that look best on your frame. We are going to let you in on one of our best kept secrets. One of our favorite V-neck tees that we keep buying is from Target. White tees don’t last very long, so at $9.00, we don’t feel guilty when we have to replace them. And the fabric of this Target tee copies tee shirts that sell for more than $50.00! Here is another crew neck version from Target in juniors sizes.
Tweens who aren’t quite ready for women’s sizes, we haven’t forgotten you! This one is a steal! You could pick up two!
Some other favorites that cost a bit more are this soft, tissue tee version from JCrew and this oversized crew neck shirt from Madewell.
This inrucdtoes a pleasingly rational point of view.
Thanks for sharing. Always good to find a real expert.
