Book Review: Mary Weber’s Storm Siren Series

This is the first of many books we’re happy to review and recommend on the chronicles. We’ll be sharing our favorite authors and stories in many genres that are riveting, exciting, and well-written. First up…the Young adult Storm Siren Trilogy by Mary Weber.

This trilogy begins with Storm Siren, which is the only one I’ve read so far. But I enjoyed it so much, I have no hesitation in recommending the entire series. Mary Weber is that good!

“I raise my chin as the buyers stare. Yes. Look. You don’t want me. Because, eventually, accidentally, I will destroy you.”

Whoa! Okay, then! We know right from the start we’re in for an intense, heart-stopping ride. This sweeping fantasy novel opens with Nym, a former slave who has been bought and sold fourteen times. It seems her fate is set until her new owner offers her comfortable lodging, clothing, and food, and the chance to train and learn to control her power. In return, Nym must agree to help save her land from a rising threat. Wait, did I say power?

Absolutely. Nym is an Elemental. She’s not even supposed to exist. And her special skill in controlling nature and the weather makes her extremely dangerous…both to enemies, and, to Nym’s horror, innocent lives as well.

Head trainer, Eogan, has experience in helping Elementals control and harness their special powers. The two bond and eventually learn to trust one another. I especially enjoyed these training scenes with Eogan.

Nym carries guilt, scars, and secrets from her past. The reader is invited to share in Nym’s struggle to overcome the destructive habits and memories that haunt her, while cheering as she grows into her own self-worth, physical strength, and emotional fortitude.

Who would love these books? If you enjoy action with magical elements, emotional love stories, and tales of friendship and foes, this trilogy is for you. Not gonna lie, this story is intense and features some violent scenes. Because of that, I’d recommend it for readers thirteen and up.

I have to comment on the crying, too. Wouldn't have expected it from good-natured little Millie, but it was something we went through every year for years. Hope she recovered quickly. Happy birthday Millie!!
