How to spruce up your bed and bedding quickly and affordably
We know it happens. You get tired of your bedroom colors or style and want to start by changing your bedding. The only problem: new bedding can be expensive. If it’s not quite time to change up your comforter or duvet, sheets and shams, you can still bring a new look to your bed by purchasing a few new accent pillows and maybe a new throw blanket. Have a look at our mood boards for some of our favorite accessories that can make your bed – and even your whole room, feel fresh and new.
Let’s start with accent pillows! We love arranging anywhere between 3-5 (or more) pillows in front of your shams. The key to getting that cool new look – mixing! Find a color range or palate, but mix shapes, sizes, colors and textures. If your bedding is already patterned, you can still add a bit more patten with pillows. Striped bedding looks great with floral pillows, and vice-versa. Then add a few more in solids, or with sayings.
Love bold colors? See our post on white bedding and brightly colored pillows here for more ideas.
A huge trend in pillows right now are pillows with words and sayings.
Choose words and sayings that say things about you!
Next, pump up your look by mixing textures. They not only feel nice (your pets might agree) but different fabrics add style and interest to your bed.
Another money saving tip is to buy a set of pillow inserts from Bed Bath & Beyond or Target. Then you can purchase and change out the pillow covers without spending more for the entire pillow.
A throw blanket is another way to spruce up tired bedding. We always have them on our beds. They’re handy to tug over your legs during chilly days or nights, and when not in use, they add more visual interest to your bed. Drape one of these throws, folded in half, along the edge of you bed. You can also toss it on one of the front corners for a relaxed look. Some of our favorites right now:
Target, Bed Bath and Beyond, Pottery Barn Teen, and Urban Outfitters have our favorite pillows and throws right now. If you head out to shop for a few, bring a picture of your current bedding with you. Have fun mixing and matching!
